Today I started work at my first placement and I have to say that I had the most fascinating day ever!! I absolutely loved it! Staff made me feel so welcome, which was one of my main concerns but everyone couldn't have been more friendly and helpful.
The security side of things is going to take some getting used to though as there are so many different rules to remember. They even trust me with my own set of keys which is kind of worrying on my part incase I forget to lock a door.
The nature of work I will be taking part in is just as I hoped it would be and today I feel like I'm getting closer and closer to my chosen career choice. This for me is exciting as I remember when in 2006 I started on my long journey of education to get where I am today. So today was a kind of pat on the back to say well done for getting this far and sticking with it, when many laughed and said I never would (my brother being the main one!)
I already know that Occupational Therapy is going to be the perfect job for me as it's principles are everything I agree with. It's such a fantastic service that is offered and it's a shame that more people are not aware of who and what Occupational Therapists do. They play an extremely important role that puts the service user's needs and wants first, unlike many of the other professions who do what they believe to be right for them without considering and asking what their feelings are. OT's follow client centered practice which is what it should be all about.
